How I'm Using Essential Oils to Heal My Hormone Imbalance:

So I found out that most of my weight gain was due to a hormonal disruption which has lead to an imbalance.

If we're being honest, this can be the cause for most weight issues in America right now.

Think about it...our foods are so overwhelmingly full of antibiotics, hormones, and pesticides that wreak utter havoc on our endocrine system (our hormones).

The reason this happens is because the endocrine system is very sensitive to stress.

Stress includes dietary stress (eating foods that don't work for your specific body, or highly processed foods that no one should be eating), emotional stress, not enough sleep, toxins, etc.

Under chronic stress, your cortisol levels rise, causing drops in estrogen and progesterone, your 2 main sex hormones. This can cause menstrual irregularities, weight gain, estrogen dominance, and infertility.

So what the hell are we supposed to do!?

Well for starters I met with a Functional Medicine Doctor and an Acupuncturist/Integrative Medicine Doctor.

They both told me to start by healing my gut.

This means diet change, and becoming aware of my personal symptom triggers.

2 big things I deal with are GERD/Acid Reflux and IBS symptoms. I've become close friends with my toilet, UNfortunately.

(did I seriously just tell the internet I'm besties with my toilet? gross. *insert eye roll here*)

So the way I avoid these super fun friends is by writing down what I ate immediately before I bumped into them.

The common themes?

Sugar. Caffeine. Animal Fats.

(Y'all. DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW MANY DIFFERENT PLACES SUGAR HIDES!?)

So I'm cutting down on those things, of course... but I'm also using essential oils, acupressure, and deep breathing techniques to manage the symptoms that will inevitably sneak into my life.

Okay, but you said Hormones. Get to the point.

RIGHT. So fun fact time:

THIS MEANS that if we're trying to balance our hormones, but we're not starting with our gut health, we're literally spinning our wheels.

So start with gut health (which I'll write blogs about later don't worry).

As you're working to heal your gut, use essential oils to support your hormonal system.

Some of my favorite essential oils to use for hormone balance are:

  • Clary Sage

  • Fennel

  • Peppermint

  • Spanish Sage

  • Spearmint

  • Sesame Seed

  • Geranium

  • Myrtle

  • Nutmeg

  • Sacred Frankincense

  • Bergomot

  • Clove

Long list, eh?

This isn't.even.the start.

There are so many plants/herbs out there that assist our bodies in producing the right levels of hormones!

Good thing companies have made blends of these magical potions!

My daily routine.

Okay so now that we have the long explanation of everything out of the way. Let's get down to the nitty-gritty.

Here is my daily health routine:

  • Drink water to flush the system. (my goal is to drink half my weight in ounces!)

  • Herbal supplement prescribed by my acupuncturist. (3 pills 3x daily)

  • Hormone blend Essential Oils roller (pulse points 3x daily)

  • Hormone blend Essential Oils oral supplement (1 drop in a shot glass of water or juice daily)

  • Apple Cider Vinegar (1 shot glass diluted with 1 cup of water or citrus tea every morning)

  • Diffuse hormone blend Essential Oils while sleeping (every night)

It looks like a lot. But it's really no big deal. I've set alarms in my phone to go off every few hours to remind me, and I keep my rollers and supplements on me at all times. I also carry around a 30oz YETI cup with me at all times so I can measure how much I'm drinking in my day.

This is how I keep track (just for good measure; totally not necessary)

And so that's it!

I hope this was helpful in some way for you!

If it was, let me know in the comments below, or simply share this article with a friend!

It means the world. :)
